Chesapeake Union Exempted Schools - Mask Update
During our February 17, 2022 Board of Education meeting our Board of Education voted to amend its current policy regarding masking guidelines.

Going forward and effective Tuesday 2/22/22 the use of masks will be optional for staff members, students and visitors in all buildings of Chesapeake Schools.

It is the current stance of the district that individuals who are "at risk", immune compromised, or non vaccinated, are recommended to wear a mask when visiting indoor facilities and events or when social distancing is not possible.

However, pursuant to federal guidelines, individuals riding on school transportation are required to wear a mask at all times while being transported.

The following recommendations have been adopted as well:

* Lawrence County Health department quarantine guidance. Direct contacts of a positive COVID exposure, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear a mask (facial covering) for 10 days, if they wish to remain in the classroom setting, as long as they are symptom free. (MASK to STAY)

* (TEST to PLAY) policy regarding students involved in extracurricular activities. Students involved can continue to participate during their quarantine period as long as they test negative on Day 1 of exposure, are symptom free, and wear a mask when not actively participating.

*Requires administrators to reinstate masks wearing if there is a positive rate greater than 10% (active cases) in a building or if the Lawrence County Health Department identifies a cluster/outbreak for a building, that specific building including staff, students, and visitors will be required to mask for 2 weeks and/or until cases fall below the threshold.

The Board of Education primary concern is the safety of our students and staff and with this recent change in quarantine guidance, the Board of Education feels that moving to the optional mask policy is appropriate at this time. Our Board of Education and administrators will continue to evaluate this policy regularly and evaluate any recommendations from the CDC and Ohio Department of Health.
